GRiZ<\/a> has launched a new video game that gives fans early access to unreleased music from his upcoming mixtape, Sidequest Vol. 1<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The game blends nostalgic, fantasy-style visuals with a turn-based mini adventure. Players are prompted to face off against a dragon and select between actions like fight, hide or run. A digital 20-sided die then determines the outcome.<\/p>\n

If you roll high enough, you\u2019ll unlock a preview of one of 12 new tracks. The game is fully replayable, offering fans the chance to collect every song ahead of the full release.<\/p>\n

The launch is the final piece of an elaborate breadcrumb trail GRiZ has been building for weeks. The campaign kicked off with a GRiZ-branded newspaper dropped across Chicago and the Bay Area, packed with cryptic messages and visual puzzles. One of those clues revealed the word “sidequest” when the flyer was folded in a specific way. Typing that word into GRiZ’s website uncovered a countdown screen with a dice graphic and subtle references to the forthcoming game.<\/p>\n

The project was brought to life with the help of Tiffany Newman<\/a> and her team, with whom GRiZ collaborated closely. From gameplay mechanics to the overall design, their work helped turn the artist’s puzzle-filled vision into an interactive experience that fans could explore and enjoy.<\/p>\n

Scheduled to release Friday, June 14th, Sidequest Vol. 1<\/em> follows GRiZ’s recent GEMiNI<\/em><\/a> EP and “Chaos Theory<\/a>,” a hard-hitting collaboration with Wooli. The new mixtape marks a return to form for the electronic music superstar, who recently ended a two-year hiatus from the music industry. His comeback will culminate this fall at Seven Stars<\/a>, his own curated festival in Virginia. He’s also set to headline two-night runs in both San Francisco and Chicago later this year.<\/p>\n
