California has officially designated June as “Electronic Dance Music Month,” marking the first time the state has formally recognized the genre’s cultural and economic significance, according to\u00a0Assembly Majority Whip Mark Gonz\u00e1lez and Senator Sasha Ren\u00e9e P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n

The bipartisan bill<\/a> was introduced in May and received sponsorship from 74 representatives prior to its approval. The politicians announced the declaration jointly on social media, highlighting EDM’s impact on communities across the state and beyond.<\/p>\n

“EDM is more than just music festivals,”\u00a0the lawmakers stated.\u00a0“It\u2019s a vibrant culture rooted in values of peace, love, unity, and respect. These events create inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can express themselves freely, celebrate loudly, and be unapologetically proud of who they are.”<\/p>\n

The recognition comes as electronic dance music festivals continue to generate substantial revenue for the state of California and its local economies, due in large part to Insomniac Events. The renowned event organizer, mentioned by name in\u00a0Gonz\u00e1lez and\u00a0P\u00e9rez’s post, is behind\u00a0HARD Summer, Beyond Wonderland, Skyline and Day Trip, among other famed SoCal festivals.<\/p>\n
